Skybridge appoints Michael Abela as new CEO

Satellite & terrestrial network integrator Skybridge has appointed former Gilat executive Michael Abela as its new CEO. Mr Abela takes the reins from company founder Glen Makin, who has moved aside to focus on areas of strategy and business development. Abela who joined Skybridge as Chief Executive on January 3rd, has over 15 years of experience in the Australian telecommunications industry. Prior to his involvement with Gilat’s recent successes in Australia, he has also headed up several successful Australian ASX listed technology companies. "The last 12 years at Skybridge have been the most rewarding years of my professional life and I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished," Makin said. “We recognise that we have developed a significant platform for further growth and Michael’s appointment will add further skill and experience to our senior management team along with a more robust corporate governance structure to facilitate that growth.” He described Mr Abela as “ a high-calibre appointment as chief executive, and a person whose values align exactly with the culture upon which Skybridge has been built."
